Thematic vehicles are the best performing exchange-traded funds in 2024, with bitcoin and climate change-related ETFs returning the top results. ETFs offering exposure to Chinese equities and video gaming companies were also among the best performers for the year.

The top performer based on returns was the Global X 21Shares Bitcoin ETF, which is up 72.4 per cent for the 10 months to October 31.
